Genetic Type 1 Diabetes Risk
Understand genetic susceptibility to Type 1 diabetes with a genetic risk score.
Service Description
Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune condition with an inherited component. This blood test examines 10 genetic variants associated with Type 1 diabetes to calculate a Genetic Risk Score (GRS). The score can contribute information to specialist assessment, including when distinguishing Type 1 diabetes from other types. Who is it for? People with a family history of Type 1 diabetes or those undergoing clinically directed investigations where genetic risk information may be helpful. What is tested? Ten genetic variants: rs10509540, rs1264813, rs12722495, rs2187668, rs2292239, rs2395029, rs2476601, rs3129889, rs689 and rs7454108. What is included? Laboratory genetic analysis, a detailed report including your genetic risk score and full clinical interpretation, plus a complimentary genetic counsellor appointment. Laboratory turnaround: approximately 5 days. Important: A genetic risk score cannot diagnose Type 1 diabetes or predict with certainty whether it will develop. Anyone with possible symptoms of diabetes needs prompt clinical assessment.
