Genetic Prostate Cancer Risk
Assess inherited genetic factors associated with prostate cancer risk.
Service Description
Family history and inherited genetic changes can influence the risk of developing prostate cancer. This test examines 14 genes associated with hereditary prostate cancer susceptibility and can support informed conversations about further assessment and appropriate monitoring. Who is it for? People diagnosed with prostate cancer, individuals with a family history of prostate cancer, or those with Ashkenazi Jewish ancestry where testing is clinically appropriate. What is tested? ATM, BRCA1, BRCA2, CHEK2, EPCAM, HOXB13, MLH1, MSH2, MSH6, NBN, PALB2, PMS2, RAD51D and TP53. What is included? Specialist genetic analysis, a detailed report with full clinical interpretation, and a complimentary genetic counsellor appointment to discuss the findings, family implications and next steps. Laboratory turnaround: approximately 6 weeks. Important: This test does not diagnose existing prostate cancer. A positive result does not guarantee that cancer will develop, and a negative result does not eliminate risk. Pre-test discussion is recommended.
