Genetic Lactose Intolerance Test
Understand whether inherited factors could contribute to discomfort after dairy products.
Service Description
Lactose intolerance can cause bloating, abdominal pain, wind and diarrhoea after consuming dairy products. This genetic blood test examines the C13910T and G22018A variants in the MCM6 gene, which are associated with lactase persistence and primary lactose intolerance. Who is it for? People who experience digestive symptoms after dairy foods, or who want to understand whether they have a genetic predisposition to reduced lactase production. What is tested? Two MCM6 gene variants: C13910T and G22018A. What is included? A specialist laboratory blood test, a detailed report with full clinical interpretation, and a complimentary appointment with a genetic counsellor to discuss the findings and next steps. Important: Genetic testing cannot identify every cause of digestive symptoms or diagnose secondary lactose intolerance.
