Genetic Coeliac Disease Test
Find out whether you carry genetic markers associated with coeliac disease.
Service Description
Coeliac disease is an autoimmune reaction to gluten that can cause digestive symptoms, fatigue and nutritional deficiencies. This genetic blood test identifies HLA types associated with coeliac disease: HLA-DQ2.2, HLA-DQ2.5 and HLA-DQ8. The absence of these markers makes coeliac disease much less likely; their presence alone does not confirm it. Who is it for? People with a family history of coeliac disease or symptoms such as persistent diarrhoea, bloating, abdominal pain and fatigue, particularly when a clinician advises genetic testing. What is tested? HLA-DQ2.2, HLA-DQ2.5 and HLA-DQ8. What is included? Specialist laboratory testing, a detailed report with full clinical interpretation, and a complimentary genetic counsellor appointment. Important: This is not a stand-alone diagnosis. Additional clinical investigations may be necessary. Do not remove gluten from your diet before seeking medical advice about diagnostic testing.
