Genetic Breast/ Ovarian Cancer Risk
Explore inherited genetic susceptibility to breast and ovarian cancer.
Service Description
Some breast and ovarian cancers are associated with inherited changes in genes involved in cell protection and DNA repair. This test examines 10 genes linked to hereditary breast and ovarian cancer susceptibility, helping identify findings that may support specialist screening and risk-management discussions. Who is it for? People diagnosed with breast or ovarian cancer, those with a family history of these cancers, or individuals with Ashkenazi Jewish ancestry where clinically appropriate. What is tested? ATM, BRCA1, BRCA2, CDH1, CHEK2, PALB2, PTEN, RAD51C, RAD51D and TP53. What is included? Laboratory genetic analysis, a comprehensive report with full clinical interpretation, and a complimentary appointment with a genetic counsellor to discuss personal and potential family implications. Laboratory turnaround: approximately 6 weeks. Important: This test does not detect existing cancer. A positive finding does not mean cancer is inevitable, and a negative finding does not eliminate cancer risk. Pre-test discussion is recommended.
