Genetic Bowel Cancer Risk
Explore inherited genetic susceptibility to bowel cancer and Lynch syndrome.
Service Description
A proportion of bowel cancers are associated with inherited genetic changes. This test analyses 13 genes linked to hereditary bowel cancer and Lynch-related cancer syndromes. Understanding an inherited predisposition may help guide appropriate specialist screening and discussions with your family. Who is it for? People diagnosed with bowel or Lynch-related cancer, individuals with a family history of bowel cancer or Lynch syndrome, or those advised to investigate a hereditary cancer predisposition. What is tested? APC, BMPR1A, EPCAM, MLH1, MSH2, MSH6, MUTYH, PMS2, PTEN, POLD1, POLE, SMAD4 and STK11. What is included? Specialist genetic analysis, a detailed results report with full clinical interpretation, and a complimentary genetic counsellor appointment to review the findings and possible next steps. Laboratory turnaround: approximately 6 weeks. Important: This is a hereditary risk assessment, not a diagnostic test for current bowel cancer. A negative result does not replace recommended bowel screening. Pre-test discussion is recommended.
